This is a silicon MMIC; essentially the same as the MAR-3.

Also recall the arrl handbook talks about alternative to using
duplexers. Isolation can also be achieved by split site, receiver &
transmitter in different locations, but not too far apart, linked by
another band.
Another alternative is same site operation using separate transmit &
receive antennas vertically separted as much as possible. Using RG214
doulbe shielded is a must, but hardline is necessary for minimal loss.
Adittional isolation can be achieved with a simple coffee can notch
filter on the receiver, and maybe another on the transmitter/PA.
If you can build cavaties as well as wacom, telewave & celwave, there
is greate fortune in your future.

Again, this is mainly for the QRPers who unsubscribed from the QRP list
due to the loss of the daily digest function. I am now taking advance
orders for the non-profit reprints of The Milliwatt (National Journal
of QRPp). Price is $22 postpaid (applies to US/Canada only). If
interested in ordering, send me an e-mail and I'll send you a copy of
the posting I made to the QRP list. 73 and Queue Our Pea DE WA8MCQ

Hello Fellows!
Does anybody where to get *a Macintosh software* for planning, testing,
and building YAGI antennas? My friend who is needing this prefer to find
something that is free or shareware. Also, all Macintosh programs which
loosely relates to the ham-radio, etc. area are needed.
Could you send me the suggestions for the FTP, Gopher, WWW sites to my
address below. I prefer personal mail, since I don't follow this list
activily.
Thanks!

The U.S. medium-wave broadcast band is being expanded. Some stations
will be relocated to new frequencies to reduce interference. Don't
know when this will happen, preparation started a couple years ago.
Ask the MW DXer's in rec.radio.amateur.shortwave.
The wide-band feature is the result of an industry effort for a
better quality AM signal. It was called "A-Max" or something like
that. Ask the MW folks for more info.

Ian:
This is an interesting thought. I have a filter breadboarded on
the bench behind me using 16 MHz microprocessor xtals. It would be
really quick to test it on the network analyser to see how well it
works at 48 MHz. I suspect that the crytals will be much less closely
matched as overtone units. I have these carefully matched for both
resonance and series resistance, so the response is VERY close to
theoretical.
I'll post the results of my test later in the week.

Subject: Quads and baluns?
To: ham-homebrew@ucsd.edu
Hello,
Upon reading the ARRL handbook from 1988, I noticed that quads,
both for HF and VHF are fed without a balun. However, the quad element
is fed in a current maximum much as the dipole.
Why does one get away without a balun for the one and not for the other?
I should think, that the asymetry will cause distortion of the radiation
pattern and the polarizazion, when the feed cable radiates.
May be it it works reasonably well in a single element or a cubical quad
but certainly not with a quagi!
Any experince/ opinion?

No, this isn't the way to remove them. You want lots of heat and solder
so they literally slide off the board. A big iron with a large tip is
in order. Some people might even recommend a torch of some sort, but I
use a 100 watt iron to solder even waveguide!
